The summer of 2025 has been exceptionally hot in Spain. It is therefore no coincidence that the media has reported on various initiatives to mitigate the impact of climate change, such as the vine arbours that PALIMPSEST has incorporated within the actions of its pilot project in Jerez de la Frontera, which held its second residential workshop in June. This highlights the growing impact of the project in linking landscape sustainability, cultural heritage, ecological practices and artistic experimentation.

The highlight came with a feature in El País, Spain’s leading national newspaper, which explored how traditional solutions such as the use of vines (parras) to shade narrow streets can inspire ecological adaptation in contemporary urban settings. An initiative led by Emparrados association, to which PALIMPSEST has contributed with various complementary and artistic actions (as the sensorization and ceramic protection devices). The article positioned Jerez as a model for blending traditional knowledge, climate resilience, and cultural innovation, reflecting the spirit of PALIMPSEST’s approach.

The 2nd residential workshop of PALIMPSEST in Jerez de la Frontera has also sparked wide media coverage, underlining the growing impact of the project in linking landscape sustainability, cultural heritage, ecological practices, and artistic experimentation. In this spirit, several publications have been made in the Spanish press.

  • Portal de Cádiz and the Diario de Jerez reported on the gathering of artists and experts from across Europe, emphasizing the city’s role as a host for cutting-edge cultural and ecological dialogue.
  • Mas Jerez highlighted Jerez’s presence at the World Expo Osaka 2025, where PALIMPSEST is showcased internationally.
  • Jerez Sin Fronteras drew attention to the resonance between PALIMPSEST’s activities and local traditions, such as the zambomba.
  • The Municipality of Jerez and Jerez 2031 platforms underlined the Residential Workshop’s alignment with long-term strategies for cultural development and sustainability in the city.

The resonance of the Jerez workshop in the press demonstrates how PALIMPSEST is not only creating artistic and ecological interventions but also shaping a public conversation on landscape sustainability, heritage and innovation. With national recognition through El País and strong local engagement, the project continues to build momentum ahead of its presentation at the World Expo Osaka 2025.

The vibrant ecosystem of civic initiatives taking place in the city further strengthens Jerez’s candidacy for European Capital of Culture 2031.
