On 23 April 2026, the PALIMPSEST project will host its Closing Event at Politecnico di Milano, marking the culmination of three and a half years of research into the role of artistic and creative practices in shaping environmental and territorial transformations.
Developed within the framework of the New European Bauhaus initiative, PALIMPSEST has explored how culture and creativity can act as powerful drivers of sustainable landscape transformation. Through experimental work in three pilot cities — Jerez de la Frontera (Spain), Łódź (Poland), and Milan (Italy) — the project has generated valuable insights, methodologies, and practices connecting art, ecology, and society.
PALIMPSEST Perspectives, Practices and Lessons Learnt| Open to Online Participation
The morning session (9:30 – 11:15 CET) will be accessible online, offering a unique opportunity for a wider audience to engage with the project’s key findings and reflections.
This session will present:
- An overview of PALIMPSEST’s research journey and main achievements
- Insights into co-creation processes, cultural practices, and sustainability
- Lessons learned from the three pilot cities
- Reflections on legacy and future scenarios
Contributions will include speakers from leading academic institutions, cultural organisations, and European project partners, providing a rich and multidisciplinary perspective.
Join the morning session online via Webex:
From Research to Policy and Beyond
The event will continue with a policy roundtable that brings PALIMPSEST into dialogue with other European initiatives, including HERITACT and UNLOCKTHECITY!, fostering discussion on how research can translate into concrete, transformative action.
Book Launch
In the afternoon, an in-person book launch titled “Landscapes in Trouble, Landscapes in Action: Theories and Practices Between Space, Art and Ecology” (Mimesis International), edited by Francesca Berni and Irene Bianchi, will take the stage. This PALIMPSEST book represents one of the project’s main outcomes, emerging from a three-year process of interviews, conversations, and shared practices. The volume brings together diverse contributions (from landscape architecture and philosophy to design and the performing arts) that explore landscape both as a site where contemporary crises become visible and as a field for experimentation.
A Moment to Reflect and Connect
The final event represents not only the conclusion of the PALIMPSEST project but also an opportunity to reflect on how artistic and creative practices can contribute to more sustainable, inclusive, and resilient futures.
We warmly invite researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and all interested audiences to join the morning session online and be part of this important conversation.
