May was a highly active and meaningful month for the PALIMPSEST project in the Łódź Pilot in Poland! The team focused on deepening local engagement and advancing experimental design interventions related to climate resilience, particularly urban water management.

One of the key moments was the 2nd participatory workshop, “Station: Greenery”, which took place on the 10th of May and adopted an experimental format. During this session, participants revisited insights from earlier workshops held in March, where local residents helped identify the most pressing urban water challenges. These insights led to a series of family workshops, where children and parents co-created three types of Meanders—nature-based prototypes designed to help manage water in the city.

  • The diverting Meander aimed to redirect rainwater;
  • The protective-filtering Meander focused on shielding green areas from urban runoff and salt contamination;
  • The retention Meander, connected to a downspout system, was designed to capture excess rainwater and gradually release it to irrigate surrounding vegetation during dry periods.

These green prototypes were showcased to international project partners during the 2nd Residential Workshop which was held in Łódź from May 24–28.
